Glittering-throated Emerald

The penultimate day of Elis' trip to Brazil and here is one of the most pleasing photos she has taken to my mind. I love the pastel tones of the background and the stance of the bird. The species is Glittering-throated Emerald, not  a commonly seen species but was regular at our friend Jonas' feeders in Ubatuba. You do come across them in the forest from time to time, but usually at the edges where the forest is not so dense. We also had one come regularly to our feeder at out fourth floor apartment in town.

This species is very similar to the Versicoloured Emerald which is smaller and does not share the brilliant white underparts culminting in an inverted V on the chest.
