Brown-backed Parrotlet

Perhaps another obvious choice, Elis and I were privileged enough to spend some 100 hours in the field with this species, which until then had only been seen in the wild by a small number of people. Our daily vigil made us at the time, and probably still, the most experienced observers of this species in the world, not something that will happen to us too often I feel.

We studied the group of birds for many days, noting their behaviour and feeding habits. the results of which will be published in Cotinga later this year. Many Brazilian birders made the journey to Ubatuba to see these birds and to photograph them, and we met and made many friends as a result.
