One of the finest places I know to go birding. Not only does it have many pairs of the rare and once thought to be extinct Black-hooded Antwrens, it has a supporting cast of superb quality. The antwrens can be found along the road to the traditional site in Jeremy Minns’ notes, but that traditional site is still well worth the effort to visit.

Before entering the track it is possible to see and hear the Black-hooded Antwrens, but there are so many birds to be found along the road it often takes an hour or so to drag yourself away and enter the site proper. Along the road outside the gate I have seen; Tataupa Tinamou, Lineated Woodpecker, Chestnut-backed Antshrike, Tufted Antshrike, Squamate Antbird,  Lemon-chested Greenlet,  White-winged Becard, Large-headed Flatbill, Sooty Grassquit and Half-collared Sparrow.

Along the track itself is very good too, Spotted Bamboowren, Orange-eyed Thornbird, Fork-tailed Tody-tyrant, Buff-bellied Puffbird, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Robust Woodpecker, Black-throated Grosbeak to name but a few.
