This state park west of São Paulo is part of a network of protected forest areas and as such is a fantastic place to bird. Its specialities as far as birders visiting São Paulo are concerned are the Helmeted Woodpecker and Black-fronted Piping-Guan. The headquarters area offers accommodation where birders can roam freely but the trails into the forest can only be visited with a monitor. Some of these monitors are red hot bird guides and can really enhance your day’s birding.
